Leo is a 15.2hh 16 year old dwb who I have had for nearly 8 years. I am looking for someone to full loan him for either hacking or as a companion. He has arthritis in one hock which has had all the treatment available to it and is now living the life of Riley! He’s on supplements and is absolutely fine for hacking and occasional schooling but if I can’t find the right person for his ridden life, I would be happy for him to go to someone who has plenty of love and time but aren't able to ride or don’t want to.
He is a fun hack and he’s no different if he has not been ridden for a month or a week but he’s not a plod or a school master. He never bucks, bolts or rears but he prefers hacking in company. He has been hacked alone by competent 15 year old who just told him to get on with it and was fine though. You can canter in a pair or group and he’ll stay steady and calm, and you can walk on the buckle straight after. He is, or was, well schooled although is rather unfit at the moment as only being ridden once a week.
On the ground he is the sweetest horse, he loves loves loves food and you’ll be his best buddy if you’re armed with anything edible. He loves people and cuddles and I call him a chatter happy pony because he wickers all the time. He never puts ears back or pulls faces at humans or other horses (I'm not sure he knows how to) and certainly never kicks either. He’s always a firm favourite wherever he goes. He’s happily stabled next to a stallion and he turns out with mares and geldings or both, but is currently turned out individually. He’s stabled at night at the moment, was stabled in the day last summer and has lived out for a few years previously – absolutely fine to live out with good rugs and shelter but in an ideal world I prefer the thought of him coming in at night when the weather is really awful and I think he does too. Will be happy for him to live out at grass again though as he has done this before.
I could talk about him all day and will tell anyone interested exactly what he’s like as I want him to go to the right home only. I am flexible on situations and can potentially contribute financially as well if necessary; I will continue paying for supplements and insurance anyway. I would consider part loan to stay where he is with indoor school and all off road hacking (it’s perfect!) if the right full loan home isn't available, financial agreement depending.
He is my best friend and can always be relied upon to put a smile on my face so this is the hardest thing I think I’ll ever do but sadly I am moving to London. I will keep in contact and want to visit as often as I am allowed to. Homes will be vetted and references required.
